Practical Opportunities
After students have completed their two semesters of study, they may elect to lead a professional or community improvement project, putting their training into action. The topics of previous projects include: ethics training for doctors, a research project on historical Armenian leaders of repute, and career counseling for school children. These projects typically last for one semester but may also lead to follow up work or new projects.
Additionally, students have opportunities to lead and become active members in a variety of informal "clubs". These currently include English language club, culture club, business development club, and First Aid training. These provide unique opportunities for students to grow in community together and find practical outlets for the interests they pursue.
Additional mentor, work and study opportunities
Additional opportunities for the development of mentoring relationships with senior leaders and work and study opportunities in Armenia and abroad are offered to a limited number of students who exemplify the highest standards of the Center.
Select students attend international conferences in order to exchange ideas and build networks of likeminded reformers who want to promote positive change based on ethical principles in their professional area of interest.
Gyumri Leadership Pilot Project
A pilot leadership program was started in the summer of 2002 in the earthquake torn city of Gyumri. This project was initiated by CLD students from the Yerevan Center who were inspired to share what they had learned with students from a less developed part of Armenia. Twenty bright university graduates from Gyumri participated in a 3 month leadership training class, including joint sessions with the Yerevan Center students and a retreat in Tsaghkadzor. Due to the high level of interest and participation in the leadership pilot project, the CLD plans to develop a full leadership program in Gyumri.
